Bekasi Train Crash Death Toll Rises to 15 as Victim Identification Underway

BEKASI, LELEMUKU.COM – The death toll from the deadly train collision near Bekasi Timur Station in Bekasi City, West Java Province, Indonesia, has risen once again. As of Tuesday (28/4/2026), authorities confirmed that 15 people have been killed in the disaster.

Senior Medical Police Official of the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya), Senior Commissioner Martinus Ginting, confirmed the updated fatality count. A joint forensic team drawn from Polda Metro Jaya and the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) is currently focused on identifying the victims.

Ten bodies have been transferred to the National Police Hospital (RS Polri) in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, where identification procedures are ongoing. The hospital's commanding officer, Police Brigadier General Prima, said the Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team is working intensively to confirm the identities of each victim through the cross-referencing of antemortem and postmortem data.

According to hospital officials, all 10 bodies received at the facility have been identified as female. However, the personal identities of each victim have yet to be confirmed, as the identification process remains ongoing.

Public Relations Chief of Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said police have opened access for families who believe they may have lost a loved one to come forward and check at RS Polri. Authorities have also pledged full support throughout the post-crash response, covering site security as well as accelerating victim identification so that remains can be returned to families as soon as possible.

The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday when a vehicle attempted to cross a railway crossing and was struck by a speeding train, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving multiple train sets along the track. Recovery and track restoration crews remain on the ground as operations continue. (Joe)
